Alarm clocks manufactured by a Gujarat company, Prince, were used as timers for the bombs that exploded in Ahmedabad on July 26, sources in the Ahmedabad crime branch said. The sources told DNA that alarm clocks of the company were used as timers for the two bombs that were defused in the Hatkeshwar area of Ahmedabad on July 26 and 27. They added that the alarm clocks have been out of production for the last ten months.
Police are now analysing the company’s distribution network, as the same clocks were used in the Jaipur blasts. “A bulk purchase of such clocks might have been made for the bombs used in the two cities,” the source added. The synchronisation of the bombs that went off successively in Ahmedabad on July 26 has surprised the police and experts from the Forensic Sciences Laboratory.
Apart from the alarm clocks, timers such as those used in washing machines were used in the Surat bombs. Sources in FSL said that the washing machine timers could have been synchronised to set the bombs off at the same time. Electronic chips were also found in the bombs planted in Surat. Police believe that except for the clocks, all other material used to make the bombs, including the chemicals, were brought from outside Gujarat. They suspect that the material may have been bought in Rajasthan.
